Belarus' EV fleet expected to reach 48,000 by 2026

05.08.2025
MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) – The electric transport sector has been gaining momentum in Belarus following Presidential Decree No. 92, Andrei Kotik, Deputy Director General for Construction and General Affairs at Belorusneft, told BelTA.

As of 1 July 2025 there were 33,930 registered electric vehicles in the country, Andrei Kotik noted.

Notably, nearly 42% (14,188 electric vehicles) of the entire operational EV fleet were registered just in the past year. Over the five-year period of the decree's implementation, the country has transitioned from experimental phase to mass use of eco-friendly transport. The corporate segment shows particularly significant growth: enterprises are actively using tax incentives, which contributes not only to fleet renewal but also to developing a new culture of transport ecology.

According to Andrei Kotik, there were about 1,000 electric vehicles in the country in 2021. This number is projected to reach 48,000 by 2026. "These results became possible due to the economic efficiency of electric vehicles, which are now cost-competitive with conventional cars, as well as systemic measures: development of charging infrastructure, preferential taxation, zero customs duties and investment deductions for businesses. Maintaining these trends will allow every tenth car in the country to be electric by 2030," Andrei Kotik said.

An ambitious goal has been set to increase the number of electric vehicles in Belarus to 300,000 by 2030.
