On 12 November 2019 as part of participation of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Austria President Alexander Van der Bellen in a Belarusian-Austrian business forum in Vienna Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Khudyk and Managing Director of the Austrian Energy Agency Peter Traupmann signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus and the Austrian Energy Agency (hereinafter referred to as the Memorandum).
The Parties decided to sign the Memorandum in view of the mutual interest in advancing cooperation in matters of mitigating consequences and adapting to climate change, development of the green economy, including renewable energy. It predetermined avenues of bilateral cooperation.
In order to assimilate principles of green economy and new cutting-edge technologies the Parties to the Memorandum agreed to develop joint proposals for government agencies, local self-government bodies, and arrange joint events in the abovementioned areas of cooperation.
Belarusian-Austrian investment projects will be worked out with a view to developing renewable energy and electric transport. Parties to the Memorandum believe that the development and introduction of effective technological solutions, the sharing of know-how technologies, experience and progressive methods will also contribute to the promotion of green energy in the Republic of Belarus.
The Austrian Energy Agency will provide assistance to Belarus with developing measures to raise the nation’s awareness, train and enhance qualifications of Belarusian specialists in matters of mitigating consequences and adapting to climate change, developing green economy, including renewable energy.
The signing of the Memorandum represents a logical step in advancing cooperation between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus and the Austrian Energy Agency. The Parties also agreed to work out a roadmap, which will determine the most topical avenues of joint work and will ensure effective mechanisms for environmental protection.
