Minsk hosts seminar on ways to eradicate Sosnowsky’s hogweed, including by means of pesticide application

A seminar held as part of the session of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Environmental Protection in Minsk District near the City Clinical Emergency Hospital discussed ways to eradicate Sosnowsky's hogweed, including by means of pesticide application. The event was attended by Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Khudyk, representatives of the Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Avgust-Bel company producing chemical plant protection agents and also the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Environmental Protection. 

The participants of the seminar got familiar with various methods for eradication of invasive Sosnowsky's hogweed and Belarusian chemical products that are used for these purposes 

Addressing the participants of the seminar Mikhail Rusy urged to apply radical methods to eradicate Sosnowsky's hogweed. The plant poses a serious health hazard as it can leave severe chemical burns on the skin during the flowering period. The deputy prime minister urged to minimize the areas occupied by Sosnowsky's hogweed this year and next year and then focus on the areas of its spread locally. 

“Eradicating Sosnowsky's hogweed is part of the activities to tidy up land. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection coordinates and oversees the efforts to eradicate this invasive plant. Thanks to the systematic work in recent years we have managed to stabilize the situation. In the coming years we need to drastically reduce the areas occupied by Sosnowsky’s hogweed,” Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Khudyk said.
