ADDRESS TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY by participants of the 17th Republican Ecological Forum timed to the Year of Peace and Creation

31.08.2023

Participants of the 17th Republican Ecological Forum timed to the Year of Peace and Creation,

emphasizing the commitment to principles of sustainable development proclaimed by the UN General Assembly’s resolution A/RES/70/1 “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” of 25 September 2015,

recognizing the importance of strengthening international cooperation to jointly find solutions to the triple planetary crisis that the world community faces due to climate change, loss of biodiversity and increasing waste pollution, and

noting that today’s challenges require all the states across the globe to unite since one country, region or continent cannot achieve this alone,

declare inadmissibility of:

the use of unilateral sanctions to exclude states, which pursue their own sovereign policy, from international communication both on platforms of international intergovernmental organizations and within the framework of international treaties;

the use of politically motivated approaches when making decisions on the allocation of international funding on the part of international donors, which makes it impossible for a significant group of states to honor their international obligations in the field of environmental protection, sustainable use of natural resources and climate change mitigation;

violation of principles of international environmental law and, in particular, the precautionary principle as well as restrictions on the effect of international treaties under the pretext of ensuring national security. A flagrant example of a gross violation of obligations in the field of protection of biological and landscape diversity was the construction of a barrier structure on the territory of the UNESCO world heritage site Belovezhskaya Pushcha by the Republic of Poland;

call for the immediate joining of efforts of all states across the globe without exception to reduce the negative anthropogenic impact on key ecosystems of the Earth in order to restore them as soon as possible, as well as to determine the best ways to find a balance between economic activity, population growth and environmental sustainability.
